Challenges to Undertaking Emancipatory Research
The Ha Ha
A Ha Ha is a large deep ditch used in manor houses to keep the sheep and cattle out of the ornamental gardens but give the illusion that gardens and the wider landscape are one. They are only noticeable as you get close to them – or fall into them! Similarly reporting on research can appear to be problem free and getting the funding can appear at first glance to be the major hurdle to conducting research. There are however many Ha Ha’s on our research journey.
The following accounts highlight the issues that researchers engaging in emancipatory research need to consider. (Click below).
‘Some of the challenges to this style of research were hidden at the beginning and even when anticipated they turned out to be more complex than we first thought. For example arranging honorary contracts for researchers at the Trust required considerable effort and time.’ Video
